I loved this book! My junior high/high school self would have loved it even more!

If your are worried about sex this is mildly PG. But I think sometimes that the worst thing a person should worry about is killing. That is in the book. For good and bad reasons. Why is that allowed when expressions of love are not? Sorry, that is something I think about a lot. In this case there are war orphans that are kidnapped and the kidnappers are vaporized. Maybe that is a spoiler, but I think a person should know ahead that this is in the book. But it is minor in comparison to the fun and adventure the main character, Juliette, finds herself in all because of a dog.

There is sci-fi. Good old fashioned space travel and aliens! There is travel about the Earth to England and Sri Lanka. And for me one of the best parts was that it takes place in mostly in Burbank, CA and the beaches surrounding L. A.

This is a present day story with cell-phones and text messages and lap-tops. The only thing that is unbelievable is how lax the parents of this girl are. They go globe trotting and leave this girl to her own devices. The daughter's judgment isn't always sound, she is a teen, after all. But the best stories come about because the parents are put on the back burner or absent. And so it is here. What I did like was how Juliette was able to talk her way through the troubles, taking her time and attempting to be reasonable, even when she got herself into the trouble, she found her way out.

Thank you, Christina Moss, for a fun story!

Sometimes sci-if can get overly complicated and hard to follow, having to refer earlier to make sense of what happens later in the story.

I loved this story and its characters! It was inspired )

I'm doing my best to support female artists more & more seeking them out. I love when female authors break through genres in writing.

This author did a great job and I look forward to reading more from her.
This was an interesting idea for a YA romance. I kind of liked the author's style, and found the slow revelation of the storyline to be intriguing.

Adults will likely find this a little less satisfying, however. The action doesn't happen until the last quarter of the book. The inconsistencies between the teen Heroine's aversion of being lied to versus her repeated lies to her family didn't sit well with me. The dialogue didn't always flow smoothly-- one character would say something, and then it would be basically repeated by another character in the next sentence. And the alternating POV towards the end of the book was irritating.

I did appreciate that this first book in the series didn't end with a cliffhanger. Overall, it was OK; and since I've already downloaded the next book, I do plan on reading it. I'm rather curious to see where the story will go from here.
I thought this was a delightfully fun Science Fiction novel for Young Adults. I am a mature reader and I got caught up in the adventure, also, quite easily. The narrative flowed well, the dialogue was believable, and the premise engaging.

Juliette is a young woman just on the verge of womanhood; definitely ready to leave the nest. Luckily Seth, is an honorable man and quite protective of his younger brother Matt, of Juliette and of his dog, Remy. Some of the most enjoyable scenes take place when the four of them are together. There is a wonderful, hard to quantify, dynamic between all the major characters that pulled me in and kept me entertained.

As an adult with children of my own, I was a little dismayed at the lies and subterfuge that took place over the summer. Juliette had minimal supervision. Once I was able to let go of some of my objections concerning the lackadaisical parenting I was able to get into the story and better appreciate Juliette's quandary and situation.

This is the first book in a series. The second and third books are also available.

This book was given to me by the author. No other compensation has been received.
